‘Work on paper’ is a generic term seen often in galleries to label a work that doesn’t have or maybe doesn’t need a descriptive title. I really started to consider it after a visit to the Menil Drawing Institute in Houston. I want to explore two meanings: a ‘work on paper’, and - I ‘work on paper’. I am developing a way to connect both meanings in one drawing, and then moving on to a series of drawings. I am also trying Strathmore Bristol smooth surface (270gms) paper, a different paper for this, ‘Works on paper’ project. I’m excited about this change and the idea of creating different types of portals and using QR codes to guide viewers through the work, which will be both real and digital. The Bristol paper is flat unlike the Strathmore Watercolor Paper 400 Series (300gms) which has a texture that you can see in most of my drawings to date. It’s going to be interesting to see how that flatness affects my style and process :^)
